The Bick's® Story

When the Bick family came to Canada in 1939, they settled onto a farm in Scarborough Ontario. In 1944 the family planted 10 acres of cucumbers on their farm for a contract they had signed to supply Rose Brand pickles. This company cancelled their contract, yet the field continued to produce hundreds of bushels of cucumbers.

In order to save the perisables cucumbers, the Bick family preserved the cucumbers-the first Bick's® pickles! As the business expanded the barn was turned into factory and Bick's® become Canada’s fastest growing manufacturer of pickles amd relishes. As the business prospered their product line expanded to include sweet mixed pickles, gherkins, hot peppers, pickled beets, horseradish and sauerkraut.

The J.M Smucker company purchased the Bick's® brand in 2004 as a part of the IMC acquisition, the brand fit well with their objective to own and market leading brands. Bick's® is the #1 brand of pickles in Canada. The FoodService division continues to grow the Bick's® brand using hight quality standards, packaging solutions and a breadth of product to add excitement to restaurant plates and recipes.

A pioneer in developing and perfecting the fresh pack process, during which the cucumbers are processed within 24 hours of being harvested. Bick's® has been producing an extensive line of pickles productsfor over half a century!
